Winter upate and video!

It has been several months since the last update, and we have  much to celebrate.  Since last winter we have produced over 700lbs of produce that has been donated to friendship trays!  Thanks to all who have planted, watered, harvested, and delivered.

Through the work of a local Boy Scout pursuing his Eagle award,  we also have plans to add additional beds, a composting system, and outdoor seating.

Let us know if you want to get involved.  All levels of experience (or none at all) are welcomed and needed!

Summer Update

It has been an eventful spring and summer at PBC!  We have added more vegetable beds, tomato, and grape boxes, and we are dreaming about even further expansion. We have harvested and donated over 200lbs of produce with 24lbs of veggies and 11lbs of beans coming from our Weekday beds.

Thank you to all who have donated money and time to build and maintain our garden.  Let us know if you would like to give your time to water or harvest!

Build Day 3/15/12

A big thank you to all who volunteered last Thursday!  We had thirteen people work for a combined 28 1/2 hours.  We expanded the garden from 7 to 11 beds (the 12th has been paid for), and added soil/compost mixture, worm compost, and cedar mulch.  With a few more hours of work we will add our twelfth bed, and we hope in the next few weeks to add moveable tomato boxes, a flower garden, and an irrigation system.

The parents of our child development center have sponsored three of our beds, and on April 23rd we will have a blessing service.  Our preschoolers will get the chance to learn about gardening, get their hands dirty in the soil, and eat food that they have grown themselves!

Thanks be to God that we can partner in God's work on our  little piece of soil.
We hope you will consider joining us.

A Blessing of A Garden

God of the Universe,
You made the heavens and the earth,
So we do not call our home merely, “planet earth.”
We call it your creation, a divine mystery,
A gift from your most blessed hand.
The world itself is your miracle.
Bread and vegetables from earth are thus also from heaven.
Help us to see in our daily bread your presence.
Upon this garden may your stars rain down their blessed dust.
May you send rain and sunshine upon our garden and us.
Grant us the humility to touch the humus, that we might become more human,
that we might mend our rift from your creation,
that we might then know the sacredness of the gift of life,
that we might truly experience life from your hand.
For you planted humanity in a garden.
Our blessed memory and hope lie in a garden.

Thanks be to God, who made the world teeming with variety, of the things on the earth, above the earth, and under the earth.
Thanks be to God for the many kinds of plants, trees, and fruits that we celebrate.
For the centipedes, ants and worms, for the mice, marmots, and bats, for the cucumbers tomatoes and peppers, we rejoice that we find ourselves eclipsed by the magnitude of generosity and mystery.
Thanks be to God
